Naomi was ecstatic to see Esme at the studio the following morning. After the meeting of the Romani men the night before, Esmeâs mother, Catarina, had informed her daughter that she would be allowed to continue working at the dance school until told otherwise.
Esme had acted surprised and pleased, despite having heard the news when she was eavesdropping on the meeting.
Naomi spent most of the morning phoning everyone from the evening before who had missed out on taking Esmeâs class to tell them that the class had been rescheduled for that evening. Heather and Sylvie immediately rearranged their schedules after the call so that they could attend.
âI have a date tonight with Jack,â Sylvie said, âbut I donât think heâll mind waiting until after the class. Heâll probably be late anyway. This whole business with the murders and the Romani is making him a little crazed.â
âDoes he think that Stefan Morgan killed the two men?â Heather asked, trying her best to sound nonchalant as she loaded books and DVDs onto a metal library cart.
âIâm not sure. He seems to think any of the Romani could have had motive and opportunity because of the Romani girl the two murdered men were fighting about. And he still thinks Joe Loveday is a suspicious character, probably because like the rest of the people in Peachtree Point, Jack canât stand the sight of the man.â
âI agree with Jack. I donât like or trust Joe Loveday. I still think itâs more than a little odd that he, of all people, was the one to find the bodies,â Heather said. âI wouldnât put it past him to be the one who took the murder weapon either.â
âJoe swears there was no knife or any other weapon present when he found the bodies. He also swears he didnât touch anything,â Sylvie said.
âWell, isnât it more than convenient that the only other two witnesses at the crime scene were deceased?â Heather pointed out. âJoe could have said anything he wanted and there was no one to verify what he reported.â
Heather pushed the cart over to the area where the part-time employees and volunteers would check in and re-shelve the materials, then she headed to her office. She had to find a way to help Jack and her sister sort out these murders. She was convinced that Joe Loveday had a hand in them somehow, but how could she find out for sure, let alone find proof that she could take to the police?
While she was considering the problem, Paul called, wanting to know if she had dinner plans. She told him about the dance class and asked if he would mind a later than usual dinner.
âI can pick up some steaks after class and meet you at my house,â Heather suggested.
âThat sounds great. Iâll meet you there after you finish the class. Iâll pick up some wine.â
Heather said. âI canât wait. See you then.â
